Smoktech Winder 1500 from Canvape

It looks a lot bigger in the pictures that the Smoktech Winder 1500 mAh really is. At its widest, it is 19 mm – and the height is only 97.5 mm.

Tons of capacity at a reasonable size.

This is Smoktech's Variable Voltage system with an EVOD style firing button. Like other EVOD systems, this is five clicks on, five clicks off. The voltage range is 3.2 volts to 4.8 volts using the knurled dial at the bottom (and everything in between). This dial is easy to turn and has a red marker. The numbers are a bit small to read, but the contrast helps. On the stainless steel version that we are testing, the numbers are a nice solid black and easier to read than other variable voltage EVOD batteries.

The action on the dial is quite smooth.

The Smotech Winder 1500 mAh also has some safety features:

  • Short Circuit Protection: If there is a short circuit, the battery shuts down until the short circuit is resolved.
  • Safety Cutoff/Atomizer Protection: The battery will "lock" if the fire button is pressed and held for more than 8 seconds.
  • Low Voltage Protection: if the battery voltage falls below 3.2 volts, the battery will automatically shut down.

The Smoktech Winder is available in seven colors, as show at the right (third from the right isn't that clear: it's pink).

This is a comfortable battery. It sits in the hand easily and is surprisingly light weight. And it's powerful. When I use a variable voltage system, I am usually at 4.2 volts. With the Smoketech WInder 1500 mAh, all I needed was 4.0 volts – combined with the Innokin Gladius clearomizer I was using (2.1 ohms), it was outstanding.

This battery ships as you see at the top right (well, only one battery, boxed). There are no manuals or instructions. No charger, no adapters, no beauty rings. This is clearly a battery that you buy as part of an upgrade strategy.

And, what an upgrade. At 1500 mAh, this should easily last between 13.5 and 15 hours. That's the drive to work, the drive back home, and all the "playing" in between. Put this together with a 650 mAh battery and you have all day vaping. With the "twist" or Winder capability, you combine long battery life with powerful vaping as you need it through the day. Light or high power when you need it. You decide, and a simple "winding" of the dial at the bottom delivers. It's a responsive system too.

So, what's the verdict? Is it worth it? The only reason I ever got an advanced personal vaporizer was for the extended battery life. I got tired of charging batteries three to four times every day. First it was a 400 mAh battery, then a 650, then a 900, and then an 1100. Even with the 1100 mAh, there were three charges through the day on average. A 1500 mAh battery is clearly the answer. Smoktech is a quality brand, the construction of the Winder is excellent, the threads are smooth, and the 510 connector at the top is slotted for air flow.

My thanks to for providing this unit. It's refreshing to have a vaporizer this light and powerful to use.
